Rengenerative medicine company Advanced Cell Technology (OTCBB:ACTC) said Monday that its chairman and CEO, Gary Rabin, will be presenting at the 2011 World Stem Cell Summit on Wednesday October 5.

The event will take place at the Pasadena Convention Center in Pasadena, California.

Mr. Rabin's presentation will provide an update on the company's two ongoing human clinical trials in the U.S. for Dry Age-Related Macular Degeneration (Dry AMD) and Stargardt's Macular Dystrophy, two degenerative eye diseases.

In both cases, eventually, severe vision loss and even blindness results from photoreceptor loss associated with degeneration in a layer of the retina, called the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE).

The trials will test the use of human embryonic stem cell (hESC)-derived retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells, which can potentially be used to supply an unlimited amount of healthy RPE cells to treat degenerative retinal diseases.

A similar trial to the US ones recently received regulatory approval in Europe, marking the first human embryonic stem cell clinical trial in the continent.

After the conference, an archived copy of Mr. Rabin's PowerPoint presentation will be available on the "conference presentations section" of ACT's website.
